Administrative Professionals Day - April 23, 2025
Everyone loves a good celebration! And we're no different. Another year has passed, and here we are again celebrating Administrative Professionals. Our role in helping our clients achieve their defined outcomes, means we often work with all levels of the organization. We know just how vital Administrators' work is.
So what are the roots of this day? Here's a short list to bring you up to speed:
Founded in 1942 the National Secretaries Association was formed to support their development, help attract workers to this field, and recognize the contributions of admin personnel to the economy - during a time when there was a shortage of skilled admin personnel in the United States. The president was Mary Barrett.
Barrett along with C.King Woodbridge, president of Dictaphone Corp., and Harry Klemfuss and Daren Ball, both PR account execs. contributed to creating a recognition day.
By 1998 the Association was changed to International Association of Administrative Professionals, and by the year 2000 we had Administrative Professionals Week.
The role of Administrator has evolved over the years. Many of us have the term Administrator as part of our title. Most of us regularly perform administration in our job functions. Just look at the range within the definition:
performance of executive duties, the act or process of administering something, the execution of pubic affairs as distinguished from policy making
Though some may think this is just another celebration pushing appreciation gifts, we choose to celebrate Administrators by recognizing the valuable contributions they make. A genuine acknowledgement and show of appreciation is not done enough, and something we all like to receive.
